It's a beautiful day here in California!! I have the sliding door open, and can see the breeze blowing the trees while I listen to a bird singing the Lord's praises. It has been a wonderful trip; can't believe it's almost over! On Friday, my dad surprised me by coming home early, and we went grocery shopping.
Saturday dawned with plans to search for a spot of beach where we might stroll and enjoy the ocean. And, well, this day just didn't go how we planned, haha. We hopped in the car with vague ideas (after Dad looked at the map) of heading down to King's City, or maybe Carmel-by-the-Sea (an AWESOME tourist/vacation town), or just anywhere we might see on the way. We passed Carmel (about an hour and a half away) and decided to keep going...the best always lies ahead, right? And we kept going, and going. and going. AND by the time we reached Gorda, a lovely little "town" that boasts a general store stocked with camping supplies and a whale-watching station. Literally, It was two buildings on the side of a road that saw a car now and then. Actually, to be honest, the road all the way down (about 150 miles in all) was busy enough; we didn't feel deserted or anything. Funny thing was, all the way down, we each felt like a thriving little burg was just around the next hill. :-D At Gorda, we finally gave up, bought a map of the route we'd just taken (it outlined what sights there were to see along the road) and turned around to head home. (After taking a picture or two at our "destination") The map was great b/c it showed us some things we'd missed on the way down, and a girl told us how to find Pfeiffer Beach, which was down a little one lane road that you would totally miss (we did, even though we were looking for it, lol) and that extended two miles back among woods and redneck huts. But, that turned out to be our little piece of beach for which we had been yearning! We strolled along the breezy Pacific, enjoying the view of the waves crashing against majestic rock sentries. The unique purple sand added to the wonder of the place. Def worth the stop. We did end up stopping at Carmel for a bit to see the beach and grab a snack (not much food to be had on our long excursion), and I started making plans to go back one day. In addition to a nice beach along the Pacific, Carmel also contains multitudes of eateries and little shops (the kind you walk around, pretending you could buy anything you want but walk out empty-handed.) And so, 300 miles, and about 9 hours later, we finally made it home. And though the day didn't go as we planned, it was a marvelous time of enjoying each other's company and the amazing view that stretched around us for the majority of the ride.
